A
lot is happening at once right now.
Nancy Ellwood, a volunteer, who recently received her Masters from the University of Colorado - Denver, is designing
the map for the trail and exhibits layout. Dr. Robert Knecht, from the Colorado School of Mines, and Charlie Chase, from the
University of Colorado
are assisting her with measuring the property and the design of the map.
We have met with the staff from the Colorado Department of Transportation to
discuss Right of Way issues and access from US Highway 40 into the site and the location of our parking area.
We have met with the staff of Clear
Creek County and are in the
process of asking the Clear Creek County Commissioners for a long-term lease for use of the land that is to the east of us
for parking. This will allow the use of all of our current property for the design of the trail.
Once these two issues have been resolved, we will begin the laying out of the
trail in the spring by Colorado School of Mines students.
We are currently doing research on soil hardeners that could be used on different
sections of the interpretative trail. One of the important goals of PAW and our Partners is to test soil hardeners that others
can use for trails that use universal design.
We are also in the process of writing grants to fund the development of the
site, along with seeking additional partners.
