The Colorado School of Mines EPIC project team "Rocky Mountain Design" made up of Kevin Wagner, Emily Nicholas, Leigh Horton, Jeremy Voget, Brian Zook, Miles Brown, and Kyle Gilbert with assistance from Dr. Robert (Bob) Knecht have finished the detail drawings needed for the construction of the trail.  These will be used to build the trail for the outdoor classroom.

Below is the drawing that will be used for the first "bump-out" or challenge area.

Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) has selected the Empire Trail for one of their construction projects for 2012. Workdays are planned for June 2-3, 2012. Overseeing the Project Operations will be Cecily Mui and the trail construction will be Dave Gebhardt. The photo below shows Cecily, Dave and PAW Board Member, Sally Hopper, visiting the trail site.

The trail is designed to show case the importance of running grade, cross-slope and surface material in determining the level of difficulty for a person with a mobility impairment as well as the general public enjoying a recreation trail.

The drawing above was made by Nancy Ellwood of the University of Colorado Denver to demonstrate  running grade and cross-slope.
